Manic Monday: Ways To Jump-Start Your Work Week

May, 4 2014

business_people3.jpgIt was hard to get back into the swing of things this past week. My daughter, Katelyn, had a late Spring Break which completely threw off our “routine.” Getting her back into the groove took a few days, but things are running smoothly again.

So many people I talk to say this is how they feel every Monday. A sense of malaise or sadness kicks in on Sunday nights and Mondays are just manic and crazy. I know some of that comes from the busy lives we all lead, but even through the craziness, I have found the secret to jump starting the work week. For real!

Every Monday, my team and I get together for a weekly meeting. The first thing we do is watch an inspirational video, which our wonderfully talented Chrissy Medina finds for us each week.

When we first discussed doing this, I wasn’t sure how receptive my team would be to sitting through a video. But four months later and guess what? Everyone, including myself, looks forward to Mondays and what inspirational topic we’ll be discussing each week to make our work week better.

This week, the question is:  What comes first to you–Happiness or Success?  Take a look at it, share it with your employees, and discuss it.

What is Happiness? Learn How to Be Happy In Life
In the meantime, here are some other tips to creating happiness in the workplace:
  • POSITIVE ATTITUDE – Have you ever worked with someone who complained about everything? I have, and it’s absolutely draining. Instead of thinking negative thoughts, choose to look on the bright side. A positive attitude can create a happy workplace and lead to a productive employee.
  • BETTER PERFORMANCE – Our brains are hardwired to perform our best when we’re happy. That’s because when we’re happy, we feel less stressed and more energetic. Try it!
  • DO SOMETHING FUN – Turns out my daughter’s late Spring Break meant a little extra mommy and me time. Katelyn and I got to do a couple of fun things we wouldn’t have done on a typical weekday and that made the whole week extra special. Sometimes trying something new or deviating from a set routine is the happy you need in your life.
  • WRITE IT DOWN – At the end of the day, write down one good thing that made you happy or smile today. If you keep a log in your smartphone or a journal, you’ll be amazed when you look back at all of the good things in your life.

Both my team and I look forward to our Monday inspirational video, which is a wonderful beginning to the workweek. This in turn makes for a less manic Monday. In the future, we’ll be sharing more video links via our social media sites. So, if you want to hear more happy and inspirational thoughts and you haven’t followed us on Facebook or Twitter yet, please do it now.

Have a Happy Week!
